The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Mount; 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 By the House Frequented. 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 on the Day when the skies are convulsed, 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
