The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 By the House Frequented. 4 And the elevated canopy 5 And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- 6 verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
