The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 by the Visited House, 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
