The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
