The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 and by the Book in lines 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
