The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 By the book inscribed. 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 By the House Frequented. 4 And the lofty roof. 5 And the swollen sea 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
