The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
