The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the mount. 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 and no one will be able to prevent it. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Then is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
