Therefore continue to give warning, for by the grace of your Lord, you are not a soothsayer or a madman. 29 Or do they say: "[He is but] a poet - let us wait what time will do unto him"? 30 Say thou: wait verily I am, with you, among the waiters. 31 Does their reasoning prompt them to this, or they are a people rebellious? 32 Or say they: he hath fabricated it: aye they will not believe. 33 So let them bring a discourse like it, if they are truthful 34 Have they not been created from some source, or are they themselves the creators? 35 [And] have they created the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they have no certainty of anything! 36 Do they own the treasures of your Lord, or have they been given charge of them? 37 Have they a ladder up to heaven by means of which they can overhear? Then let their listeners bring a clear proof. 38 Do the daughters belong to Him and the sons to you? 39 Or askest thou (Muhammad) a fee from them so that they are plunged in debt? 40 Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down? 41 Or desire they to outwit? The unbelievers, they are the outwitted. 42 Do they have any god other than Allah? Exalted be Allah above whatever they associate (with Him in His Divinity). 43 And if they were to see a fragment from the sky falling, they would say, "[It is merely] clouds heaped up." 44 Then let them be (O Muhammad), till they meet their day, in which they will be thunder-stricken, 45 The Day when their plotting shall not avail them at all nor will they be helped (i.e. they will receive their torment in Hell). 46 Surely a chastisement awaits the wrong-doers even before the coming of that Day; but most of them do not know. 47 And be thou patient under the judgment of thy Lord; surely thou art before Our eyes. And proclaim the praise of thy Lord when thou arisest, 48 and proclaim the praise of thy Lord in the night, and at the declining of the stars. 49
