The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
