The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
