The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
