The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
