The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder. 1 Yet, when they see a sign they [who deny the truth] turn their backs and say, "The same old sorcery!" 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 And certainly some narratives have come to them wherein is prevention-- 4 profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: 5 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) on the day when the Summoner summoneth unto a painful thing. 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Hastening towards the caller, the disbelievers will say: "This is a hard Day." 8 ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 We therefore opened the gates of heaven, with water flowing furiously. 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 Surely We sent on them a tornado in a day of bitter ill-luck 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 21 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 22
