The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The Hour is drawing near, and the moon is split (in two). 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 Then We opened the portals of heaven with water poured out. 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 Sailing, before Our eyes, a reward for him who was denied. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning. 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
