[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to all [Our] warnings; 23 For they said: "A man! Alone from among us, that we are to follow? Truly, then we should be in error and distress or madness!" 24 "Is it that the Message is sent to him, of all people amongst us? Nay, he is a liar, an insolent one!" 25 [And God said:] "On the morrow they will come to know who the boastful liar is! 26 Behold, [O Salih] We are letting loose this she-camel as a test for them; and thou but watch them, and contain thyself in patience. 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns). 28 But they called their companion who took hold of her and hamstrung her. 29 How [terrible] were My punishment and My warnings! 30 Behold, We let loose upon them one single blast [of Our punishment,] and they became like the dried-up, crumbling twigs of a sheepfold. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 32 The people of Lout (Lot) belied the warnings. 33 Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night, 34 as a blessing from Us: this is how We reward the thankful. 35 And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning. 36 They even asked of him his guests for an ill purpose. Then We blinded their eyes (and said): Taste now My punishment after My warnings! 37 And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment. 38 So taste My chastisement and My warning. 39 And indeed, We have made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 40
