The Thamud (also) rejected (their) Warners. 23 For they said; Is it a mortal man, alone among us, that we are to follow? Then indeed we should fall into error and madness. 24 "Is it that the Reminder is sent to him [Prophet Salih (Saleh)] alone from among us? Nay, he is an insolent liar!" 25 "Tomorrow they will know who is the impudent liar! 26 Behold, [O Salih] We are letting loose this she-camel as a test for them; and thou but watch them, and contain thyself in patience. 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns). 28 But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her). 29 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 30 Verily, We sent against them a single Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.), and they became like the dry stubble of a fold-builder. 31 And indeed, We have made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 32 The nation of Lot belied Our warnings. 33 We sent a stone-hurtling storm against them, except the family of Lot whom We saved in the early hours of the morning 34 As favor from us. Thus do We reward he who is grateful. 35 Lot warned them against Our torment, but they persistently disputed it. 36 They demanded that he turn over his guests to them. We struck their faces, blinded them and said, "Suffer Our torment of which you were warned". 37 Early on the morrow an abiding Punishment seized them: 38 "So taste ye My Wrath and My Warning." 39 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 40
