The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ The Compassionate. 1 has taught the Qur'an, 2 Created man, 3 and has taught him intelligible speech. 4 The sun and the moon to a reckoning, 5 The stars and the trees prostrate themselves. 6 And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance 7 (Transgress not in the Balance, 8 Therefore, maintain just measure and do not transgress against the Balance. 9 He has laid out the earth for His creatures. 10 On it are fruits and palm-trees with sheathed clusters [of dates], 11 grain with its husk and aromatic herbs. 12 O which of your Lord's bounties will you and you deny? 13 He created man of clay like the potter's, 14 And He created the jinn of a flame of fire. 15 Which of the wonders of your Lord's power will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 16 (He is) the Lord of the two easts (places of sunrise during early summer and early winter) and the Lord of the two wests (places of sunset during early summer and early winter). 17 Which favors of your Lord will you both belie? 18 He has set flowing two seas that appear to meet. 19 With an interstice between them which they cannot cross. 20 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny? 21 There come forth from them pearls, both large and small. 22 How many favours of your Lord will you then deny? 23 His are the ships, towering on the sea like mountains. 24 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 25
