The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those on the right hand; 38
