The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 You will become three categories: 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude of those of old 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And raised couches; 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgins. 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 for the people of the right hand 38
