The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
