The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 a host of the ancients 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 The Companions of the Right 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the right hand; 38
