The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
