The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and banana trees, 29 and extended shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
