The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 there is no denying its coming 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
