The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And extended shade, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
