The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
