The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and continuous shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
