The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
