The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And couches raised up. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
