He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to a rich man, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and palms 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
