The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And shade extended 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 and raised couches 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
