The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and defilement flee! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 it will be a hard day 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
