The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins. 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
