The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And extended shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
