The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and continuous shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
