The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 And have made them virgins. 36 chastely amorous, 37 for those on the Right, 38
