A multitude from the ancients. 39 and many from the later generations. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
