A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 They were endowed with good things 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they used to say, “When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?” 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
