a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 "We are ruined, 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
