a large group of the earlier people 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 In the matter of exchanging you for others, and to transform you into what you do not know. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
