A multitude of those of old 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 “We have been penalised; 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
