A large group from the earlier generations. 39 and many from the later generations. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin of disbelief. 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
