Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A company of the former peoples 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
