A crowd of earlier generations 39 and many from the later generations. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
