A multitude from the ancients. 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 And will fill your bellies therewith; 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
