a multitude of the ancients, 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 Then will fill your bellies with it. 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
