a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 And those on the left hand: What of those on the left hand? 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
