These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and many from the later generations. 40 The Companions of the Left. O Companions of the Left! 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And they used to say, "When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?" 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers - 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
