a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
